About
“imaginative virtuosity, moving from gauzy delicacy to vigorous propulsion, from dreaming to dancing and back”
— THE NEW YORK TIMES
The Bellevue College Music Department and Guitar Program proudly present Badi Assad. Badi Assad, the remarkable Brazilian artist, defies music genres with her voice, guitar, and percussion talents. She’s known for singing while playing guitar and bass, using mouth percussion to create unique percussive sounds. Born in São Paulo, she pioneered the “one-woman-band” style, blending vocal percussion and body rhythms. After collaborating in “Mulheres de Hollanda,” she gained recognition through albums like “Solo” and “Chameleon,” despite facing focal dystonia. In 2020, she released “Around the World,” and in 2021, she featured on Arooj Aftab’s GRAMMY-winning “Vulture Prince.” Her journey continued with “Ilha” in 2022, and is currently touring the world in support of this great catalogue of beloved and fresh Brazilian music.
