The BelRed Arts Studio has opened its doors in Bellevue, marking a new chapter for the city’s growing BelRed Arts District. Located at 1615 133rd Place NE, the studio offers space for local artists to work, teach, and exhibit in the creative heartbeat of the Eastside. It supports professional artists, emerging talent, and curious visitors in the Pacific Northwest who want to see creativity up close.

“This is an exciting time for us,” said Sandy Vo, Executive Director of the BelRed Arts District Community Alliance. “The BelRed Arts Studio will be a creative home where local artists and arts enthusiasts can come together to create, connect, and strengthen the arts community in Bellevue and across the Eastside. This is part of our larger plan to develop the BelRed Arts District into a vibrant, accessible arts destination for everyone.”

Once a corridor of warehouses between Downtown Bellevue and Redmond, BelRed Arts District now hums with creative energy between its studios, galleries, and performance spaces filling buildings that once housed machine shops and supply depots.

A District Built for Makers: BelRed Arts District History

The BelRed Arts Studio joins more than 60 creative organizations and businesses already established in the district. Here's a timeline of the BelRed Arts District.

  • From the 1960s - 2000s the area between Bellevue and Redmond was known as the BelRed Corridor, a zone of warehouses, auto shops, and light manufacturing.
  • The City of Bellevue first designated the area as an "Arts Village" in 2009, adopting a landmark redevelopment strategy.
  • In 2017, the nonprofit ArtSpace conducts a study on creative work/live space in Bellevue
  • In 2020, Bellevue secures a Creative Consultancies grant to support a deep dive into the area's cultural potential.
  • The City of Bellevue adopted a five year plan in 2022 to support the evolution of the arts district.
  • In 2023, the BelRed Arts District Community was founded, and today the district continues to transform with more creative businesses. A community effort.
  • In 2024, the Sound Transit 2 Line light rail opens, and for the first time visitors can reach the district by light rail.
  • 2025, the BelRed Arts Studio opens, giving the district its first large-scale shared creative workspace.

As we await the light rail extention to Seattle in 2026, BelRed is well positioned as the Eastside's premier arts destination.
